Say hi: 0330 223 7000
Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm

How does it work?
We meet you at your business, answer any questions you have, and perform a free site visit to make sure an install is possible.
A date is then arranged to install our HandyChargers.
After installation is complete, your customers can charge their vehicles by plugging in to the HandyCharger and simply scanning the QR code to pay. We provide 24/7 freephone customer support.
Your statement, and payment for electricity provided, is sent to you at the end of each month.
What's the catch?
No catch! For locations where your customers will pay for their electricity, we charge you a one-off fee of £195 per HandyCharger to help cover the cost of install, maintenance, servicing and round-the-clock customer support.
You receive a monthly payment calculated from the Government's most recently published average cost of business electricity, plus an additional 20%.
As a really simple example, you decide to install 5 HandyChargers and pay a one-off fee of £975 to confirm your order. If your customers draw 1,000 kWh of electricity during the month and the published average cost is 30p per kWh, you receive £300, plus 20% = £360.
You will profit each month, and importantly attract more customers to your business, by offering EV charging without large ongoing or up-front costs.
We generate our income from selling electricity to your customers at a rate price-matched to the country's biggest provider of EV chargers, BP Pulse. This is based on BP Pulse's rate for DC charges paid online.
What if I want the cost for users to be lower?
If most charges that take place are by employees or clients, your priority may be to offer a convenient service at a low cost or no cost - for example in an office car park.
If this sounds more suitable for you, we offer the option of you choosing how much to charge users and you receive 100% of the income. We deal with all maintenance, servicing, payment processing and provide 24/7 freephone customer support.
This is just £35 per month per HandyCharger and installation is free.
With free installation and low ongoing costs, and the ability to profit each month from HandyChargers, we believe our prices are the best in the country. That's why we are proud to shout about them here, on the home page of our website.

FAQs
-
How does the installation work? Our Local Sales Agent meets you at the location of the installation to perform a site survey and answer any questions you may have. Upon successful survey and payment of £195 for each HandyCharger installed we schedule your installation in conjunction with our approved Installers. Please note installations at locations where HandyChargers are used with all monies going to the site, does not require any upfront installation payment. Currently the UK Government offers money off each vehicle charger installation at businesses such as offices, holiday parks, chalets and bed and breakfasts, offices and schools - we require this to be submitted to help cover our cost of equipment and installation. Your Local Sales Agent will fully explain this to ensure it has been successfully submitted and your Installer receives this payment. As an installation only becomes profitable for us after many years of operation, we require a 10 year contract to be signed with the site owner. After that period it simply rolls from month to month. If the charger use is lower than expected we can assist with strategies to promote the service to your customers. HandyChargers remain the property of HandyCharge at all times.
-
How can you install HandyChargers for just £195?We use this fee in conjunction the Government grant application funds to minimise our loss on each install. As we make a small profit per charger each year we expect breakeven from installation in 7 years - that's why we require a 10 year agreement to be signed with the site owner. The £195 fee help ensure only businesses serious about improving their customer offering by providing car charging go ahead. We can't keep up with demand so want to make sure installations take place where they are most likely to help as many people as possible!
-
What ongoing service do you provide?- Local Account Manager to assist with questions during install - 24/7 Customer Service line to solve any charging issues your customers may have - Unlimited Engineer call-outs and labour (subject to fair use) - Repairs, spare parts and replacements - Help with promoting the charging service to your customers
-
Can I provide charges at my office at cost price or any price I wish?Yes! Installation is free and we still provide the exact same level of service as our other installs. All charge income is forwarded to you at the end of each month and you are free to set the rate at any price you choose. You can also change this any time. As we don't receive any profit from charges that take place we charge £35 per HandyCharger per month to cover our ongoing service costs such as our free 24 hour call centre, call outs and payment processing of all charges.
-
Can I operate HandyChargers myself and provide free charges?Certainly that is also possible. You would however need to use your own software and provide 4G connectivity. If you wish to offer your guests and employees free charging you can purchase HandyChargers here.
-
After installation do I have any ongoing obligations? We take care of everything! If you are aware of faulty equipment let us know and we'll send an Engineer out to make it right. We expect you to occasionally glance over the equipment to make sure nothing is dirty/altered/damaged. We also politely suggest that once per year you reach out to your customer database to let them know you now offer electric car charging at your location. This is a great excuse for you to send them a message, as well as a great reminder for them to book with you! We can help with the message wording.
-
What can I expect to earn?We like to highlight that the primary reason for an installation is to give your customers another good reason to spend time and money at your establishment. However, excluding the primary advantage of additional custom, businesses are expected to benefit by anything between £200 to £1,000 each year or even more from charges taking place through the HandyChargers located on their property. Finally offering chargers throughout your site ensures a safe way for your customers to charge and removes the need for electric vehicle owners to put cables through windows to charge their cars - often without offering to pay for this!
-
Where do you operate? We cover all of the UK. Our HQ is just outside Glasgow.
-
How do I use a HandyCharger?Once you've plugged the HandyCharger in to your car you can follow these instructions to authorise a payment and charge your vehicle; Scan the QR corresponding to your charger cable to be taken to a payment page to complete payment and begin the charge. Oh wait, that's it! You can stop the charge at any time from the payment page. After you finish your charge you are able to input your email address for a receipt. We strictly do not offer an app or require pre-loading of accounts with money or any of your personal details. Actually, we don't even offer accounts. At HandyCharge we simply want to provide businesses reliable, easy-to-use chargers.
-
HandyCharger not working?Really sorry. There's nothing worse than finding a car charger doesn't work properly. Contact us on 0800 494 7000 to speak with us 24/7. We can remotely unlock your cable from the HandyCharger, perform remote resets and help with any questions you may have. If a remote reset is not successful, most sites we operate at have multiple HandyChargers nearby so you are normally able to use another one. Offering reliable, easy-to-use charging is our priority. Our whole business is designed round this ethos, with no Apps or personal data required to use the HandyChargers. This maximises the likelihood of a successful charge and achieve a high on-line status. Indeed, our target fleet 'up-time' is above 99%. However we are really, really sorry if your experience has not been positive and we appreciate being told about faulty equipment, so we can arrange a prompt repair for future users.
-
Cost to charge? We simply perform a pre-authorisation from your selected payment method to initiate charging. This is normally £50 and is explained before you make payment. This amount is held and is replaced with the actual charge cost when your charge completes. For offices and other locations where the price is decided by the building owner, the rate is explained when you scan the QR attached to the HandyCharger. For other sites we simply price match with BP Pulse rapid charges by Contactless. This is currently £.89p/kWh and this rate is also explained . BP Pulse are currently by far the biggest public provider of chargers in the UK and we know users appreciate a simple price structure at all chargers. Unlike BP Pulse however, we never, ever charge a connection or transaction fee. Could you imagine paying for the privilege of attaching your car to a petrol pump?
-
Charger type?HandyChargers are Type 2 chargers - by far the UK's most common charger type. HandyChargers have two 5m long cables attached. This is for ease and to ensure connection with vehicles that may not be able to park right beside the charger for any reason.
-
How long to charge?HandyChargers are normally situated at locations where employees or visitors spend hours parked up or are staying overnight. We find a 7.4kW/h charging speed is the best balance of being able to complete a full charge during your stay without overly complex installations, often in remote locations, which would normally render the install not financially viable and may leave the location without any charging option. It also allows us to install multiple twin cable chargers at locations, which virtually removes the issues around overstaying in spaces. And no, we don't charge any overstay fee. If two vehicles are connected and charging at the same time charging is simply split equally between vehicles at an approximate speed of 3.7kW/h each. As our twin cable chargers are less busy than most EV chargers and often located right outside your accommodation or office the likelihood of having to wait to plug in is extremely low.

Although a previous sales background is helpful we don't look for any specific education or work experience.
-
What commission do you offer?Your commission is based on meeting reasonable sales targets. If you hit an achievable monthly target of 24 installs your commission is £60,000 per year. This typically means just 4 sites signed up each month. Some Local Sales Agents who complete more installs will earn over £100,000 in commission per year. We offer every possible opportunity to return to reaching your achievable monthly targets, however if you do not reach your target for three months in a row or if your average installs is less than 75% of the company average over a three month period you are liable to have the right to operate in your area removed. We don't take this lightly and provide support and training to make sure you reach your targets to benefit you, HandyCharge and the environment too!

What does the role involve? As a self-employed Electrician already qualified to current standards, you will be responsible for installing HandyChargers. You will also be expected to perform occasional service call-outs. Some months are busier than others and you will regularly speak to your Local Sales Agent to stay on top of the workload. Typically a site visit prior to install is not required as the Local Sales Agent will already have the relevant details from their visit to the site. An average of 6 HandyChargers are typically installed per location, normally in sites where each install is the same and is generally straightforward (think log cabins with a parking space right outside). We provide the HandyChargers to you. As we offer straightforward bulk installs at one single location to Installers and we perform the site visit for you we expect competitive pricing for installations. There is no expectation or requirement that that you only work for HandyCharge. You will be expected to liaise regularly with the Local Sales Agent in your area to help provide an excellent service to the site owners.

The Installer must be OZEV approved for EV charger installations. We are on the look out for enthusiastic, friendly applicants with a healthy work attitude we'd enjoy spending time working with. We provide simple training required to complete and sign off HandyCharger installs.
-
What commission can I expect per job? This depends on the number of HandyChargers installed at the site. We aim to build good relationships with a number of Installers where we offer good quality jobs with multiple installs taking place at just one location. This is generally in convenient locations and is without the requirement to perform a site visit before the job. So we expect to pay a competitive price per charger installed and in turn offer larger, easier jobs to reliable Installers. You will liaise with Local Sales Agents regarding jobs and can decide the best date of installs based on your diary and any requirements of the site owner. And we are friendly and hard-working. We also love to socialise. We have an annual get-together with food, drinks, entertainment, prizes and general merriment for all of the HandyCharge team and we would love to have you join us!
